How to get from Porto to the Algarve fastest? Fly to Faro, then take a coach or a rental car to your resort.
The plane
Flights leave from Porto airport for Faro. Allow for the trip to the airport and security: door-to-door time is about double the flight time.
The coach
Coaches leave from the Campanhã intermodal terminal. It is the budget option, but 7 hours is long with children. Book ahead for low fares.
The train
It leaves from Porto-Campanhã station, with two departures a day according to Rome2Rio. I could not check the Alfa Pendular or Intercidades services on this route: consult the CP website. For the station and connections, see transport in Porto.
The car
Ideal if you want a stop in Coimbra, Lisbon or on the coast; see renting a car in Porto. A one-way rental dropped in the Algarve may carry a surcharge: check with the rental company.
Before you go
If you hesitate between north and south, see Porto or Lisbon and Lisbon from Porto, which can serve as a stopover.
