Palácio do Freixo in Porto: history, visiting and the hotel in Nasoni's palace
The Palácio do Freixo is a Baroque palace on the Douro, east of central Porto, attributed to the architect Nicolau Nasoni (1740s depending on the source: 1742 or around 1748). A national monument since 1910, it is now a luxury hotel (Pestana Palácio do Freixo, a Pousada de Portugal since 2009). There are no reliable public visiting hours: you get in by staying, dining or on occasional guided visits.
Highlights

The facade and gardens
The palace stands on the riverbank next to the Freixo bridge. The outside can be seen from the quay, no ticket needed.

The palace and the old mill
The palace holds the restaurant, bar and lounges; the rooms are in the neighbouring former Harmonia flour mill (87 or 75 rooms depending on the source).
The guided visits
Open House Porto has offered guided visits on some Sundays (around 3-5 pm); these are not permanent.

Tips
- To see the inside without staying, book breakfast (7:30-11:00), lunch or dinner (7:30-10:30 pm): these hours come from one operator and should be confirmed with the hotel. From the river, the palace is easy to spot on a six bridges cruise. For atmosphere without paying, the Ribeira is simpler.
How to get there
The palace is in Campanhã, on the north bank of the Douro, east of the centre; Campanhã station is close; check on site. By taxi or car from the centre, allow about ten minutes.
