Serralves Foundation in Porto: contemporary art museum, Art Deco villa and park, tickets and getting there
The Serralves Foundation is Portugal's leading contemporary art site, in the Boavista district west of Porto's centre. On one estate it brings together the museum designed by architect Álvaro Siza, the pink Art Deco villa built for the Cabral family and a park of several hectares for strolling among trees, gardens and sculptures. Allow half a day to see everything, longer if you enjoy temporary exhibitions. Prices quoted here are those seen in October 2026.
Highlights

Álvaro Siza's museum
A white concrete building with simple volumes, set in the park, it hosts monographic and thematic exhibitions that change regularly. The galleries are bright and natural light plays a big part: even if you do not know contemporary art, the architecture alone is worth the visit.

The Art Deco villa
Built between the 1920s and the 1940s for the Cabral family and surrounded by terraced gardens, the Casa de Serralves is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in Portugal. It now holds exhibitions and displays from the collection; its pink façade can be seen from the park.
The park and the treetop walk
The park is made for wandering: lawns, ponds, tree-lined paths and open-air sculptures. The treetop walkway (Treetop Walk) is included in the general ticket, which covers all of the Foundation's spaces.
Prices (official site, October 2026)
General ticket (museum, villa, park, House of Cinema and walkway): €24. Park only: €15. Late afternoon ticket, Monday to Thursday from 5pm (last entry 6pm): €15 for non-residents. Half price for ages 12 to 17, students (up to master's level, 25 at most, with proof) and over-65s; free for under-12s; 20% off with the Porto Card or Youth Card.

Tips
- On the first Sunday of each month admission is free, but only for residents of Portugal (citizen or resident card, at the box office): do not count on it as a foreign visitor. Hours from April to September differ from those from October to March; check the "Visitar" page on the official website before you go. Buy your ticket online to avoid the queue at the entrance, and wear comfortable shoes: the estate is large. If you are watching your budget, compare with the Soares dos Reis National Museum and the free Portuguese Centre of Photography.
