The Douro: cruise, sailboat, valley
The classic six bridges cruise costs €18 from Gaia and €20 from the Ribeira with the operator Cruzeiros Douro; it is the budget option, with departures every 30 minutes. For a group that wants a more intimate boat with a glass of port, a sailboat or yacht runs around €60 for about 2 hours. On a three-day stay, a Douro valley excursion costs €49 to €75 per person; kayak or paddle adds a more sporty option.
Port, fado and cellars

The Gaia cellars can be visited as a group: Taylor's shows €25 per adult, Cockburn's about €30. To compare, read which cellar to choose; the World of Wine museum also offers tastings. For music, fado is enjoyed in a one-hour show (€15 to €22 with a glass of port) or with dinner (€45 to €100).
Pub crawl, bars and clubs
Guided pub crawls in Porto last about four hours and cost €15 to €25 with 4 to 9 drinks depending on the package, plus club entry. Reviews mostly praise the guides and the mixed-crowd atmosphere; extra drinks are on you. The nightlife area is around Rua Galeria de Paris and the neighbouring streets in the centre. Clubs fill up late: plan to get back by taxi or ride-hailing (see getting around Porto).
Treats without alcohol
A three-hour food tour costs €55 to €75 per person in a small group. For a group that likes cooking, the pastel de nata class is a gentle activity; for sporty types, a surf lesson at Matosinhos breaks up the bar rhythm. And for the city itself, the tuk-tuk tour handles the hills well. The local dish, the francesinha, is ideal before the night.
Rules to know
- Takeaway alcohol: since 25 June 2025, selling alcoholic drinks for consumption on the public road is banned in Porto between 9 pm and 8 am. In sensitive central zones, only cafés, bars, restaurants and nightclubs may sell it after 9 pm: do not expect to buy a bottle for the group in a shop. Drink on a terrace or inside.
- Age: 18 to buy alcohol.
- Scams and theft: keep phones and wallets close in the Ribeira streets and in crowded bars; see scams and safety in Porto.
- Outfits: costumes are tolerated in bars, but keep it discreet in churches, on the quays and on transport.
- Formalities: see before you go to Porto for the tourist tax (€3 per night per person aged 13 and over, 7 nights maximum).
