The gap with home
| From | Gap with Porto | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium | Porto is 1 h behind | 12:00 in Paris is 11:00 in Porto |
| United Kingdom, Ireland | Same time | The clocks change on the same day |
| New York, Montréal (East coast) | Porto is 5 h ahead | Only 4 h for a few weeks (see below) |
| Brazil (Brasília) | Porto is 3 h ahead in winter, 4 h in summer | Brazil has no daylight saving time |
| Azores | Porto is 1 h ahead | The Azores are on UTC-1 (UTC+0 in summer) |
What time is it in Porto compared with the UK? The same, all year: both change clocks on the same Sunday.
Clock-change dates
Portugal and the rest of the European Union move to summer time on the last Sunday of March and back to winter time on the last Sunday of October. The switch back to winter time took place on 25 October 2026; summer time 2027 starts on 28 March 2027.
The North America trap
The United States and Canada change clocks on other dates (second Sunday of March, first Sunday of November). As a result, from 25 October to 1 November 2026, then from 14 to 28 March 2027, the gap between New York and Porto is only 4 hours. Double-check the time of a flight or a call in those weeks.
Day to day
In Portugal, times are often written like 10h00 or 22h00 (24-hour clock). For museum hours, Sunday closing and public holidays, see public holidays in Portugal. On arrival, jet lag from Europe is small: aim for a quiet night before you leave, and pick a hotel near the airport for an early flight.
