Leça swimming pools (Piscina das Marés, Siza): price, hours and how to get there from Porto (2026)
The Leça swimming pools, or Piscina das Marés, in Leça da Palmeira (Matosinhos), are seawater pools carved into the rocks by architect Álvaro Siza: a large pool and a small one for children, protected as a monument. They open only in summer, from late May to mid-September (dates vary, 1 June-15 September according to one source), 9:00 to 19:00. A guide gives about 6 € on weekdays and 7 € at weekends, free up to age 3, but these prices and the 2026 dates must be confirmed with the operator (+351 229 952 610).
Highlights

The pool among the rocks
The pool follows the rocks and the tide: you swim in ocean water filtered by concrete, with waves a few metres away.
Siza's architecture
Low concrete walls, discreet changing rooms and bar, designed to disappear into the landscape: it is an architecture visit as much as a swim.
The Matosinhos coast
Walk on towards the beach and the Leixões harbour, then continue with the beaches of Porto and Matosinhos.

Tips
- Atlantic water stays cool even in midsummer: bring a towel, and do not count on swimming outside the season. Come early in the morning or on weekdays, capacity is limited and sunny weekends are full. For another Siza, see Serralves. Closures for rough seas are possible: check on the day.
How to get there
From Porto, take the metro to Matosinhos then a bus or taxi (about 2 km) or walk along the coast; check the exact route before leaving. The pools are on Avenida da Liberdade, in Leça da Palmeira.
