Clérigos Tower in Porto: tickets, 225 steps and views over the city
The Clérigos Tower (Torre dos Clérigos) rises about 75 metres above the centre of Porto, on Rua de São Filipe de Nery. Its staircase of around 225 steps leads to a balcony with a 360° view over the rooftops, the cathedral and the Douro. It is open every day from 9am to 7pm, with an adult ticket at €10 (€7 for students and 11-18s, free up to age 10). The Clérigos church, designed by the Italian-born architect Nicolau Nasoni, was built between 1732 and 1750 for the brotherhood of poor clerics, with an oval nave that is rare in Portuguese architecture. The tower, completed in 1763, became the landmark for ships approaching the mouth of the Douro.
Highlights

The Baroque tower
Its six granite storeys, carved with garlands and scrolls, stand out above the lower town. It can be seen from almost everywhere in the centre and is a handy landmark for finding your way.

The top balcony
At the top of the steps, the narrow balcony looks over red-tiled roofs, the city hall tower, the Sé cathedral and, in the distance, the Douro. The staircase is narrow and two-way, so you pass other visitors on the landings.
The church and the museum
The Baroque church, with polychrome marble on its façade and inside, and the small Clérigos museum are open in the same complex. An accessible route for visitors with reduced mobility and a multisensory space that simulates the climb let you experience the tower without the steps.

Tips
- Book your slot online on the official website to avoid queuing in high season. Go up early in the morning or late in the day: the light is better and the staircase less crowded. The balcony is cramped and windy, so avoid large bags. For a view at night, the "Clérigos by Night" option runs on the extended-opening dates. Prices and hours checked in October 2026.
