Airport to centre: the three options
| Option | Indicative price | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Uber / Bolt | 15-25 € (Bolt Economy sometimes ~10 €), 35-50 € at peaks | "Rideshare / TVDE" zone signposted at the airport |
| Official taxi | 25-35 € metered | Taxi rank outside the arrivals exits |
| Private transfer | 20-40 €, fixed price | Driver with a sign in arrivals |
| Metro line E | 2.90 € (2.30 € + 0.60 € card) | Airport station |
Private transfer with Welcome Pickups. You book in advance at a fixed price, an English-speaking driver waits in arrivals with a sign, and the flight is tracked so the driver waits if you land late. Example seen on their site on 30 October 2026: a sedan for up to 4 people to the city centre from €26. If you travel alone, by day and with a light bag, the cheaper public option described on this page is usually better; the private transfer is worth it for a night arrival, a family, heavy luggage or a first visit.
Sources differ: another guide quotes a taxi at 24 € and an UberX at about 10 €. Trust the price shown in the app before you confirm.
Uber or Bolt?
Compare both apps when you set off: one guide notes that Bolt often shows a lower base fare, but the gap varies. Connect to the free airport wifi before leaving arrivals. Check the plate, model and driver's name before getting in. A standard UberX usually takes two suitcases; beyond that, choose an XL.
The taxi
Legitimate taxis are beige or black with a green roof. Ignore anyone who approaches you in the terminal. The meter should start within the first half minute; official rates must be displayed on the rear left window. Surcharges quoted: 1.60 € for bags larger than 55 x 35 x 20 cm, and a rate 20 % higher from 21:00 to 06:00, at weekends and on public holidays. Keep 20 to 30 € in cash in case the card terminal fails, and ask for a receipt (fatura).
In the city
Distances are short but slopes are steep: a ride-hail is useful for the climb up to the Sé, for getting back late or for a district the metro serves poorly (see Getting around Porto). The Ribeira's lanes are narrow: the driver may drop you nearby rather than at the door (see Ribeira).
Pitfalls to avoid
- Peak prices: in July-August, at rush hour, in the rain or on event evenings the surcharge is steep; wait a few minutes or take the metro.
- The pick-up point: ride-hail cars and taxis do not wait in the same place at the airport.
- At night: the 3M bus runs when the metro is closed (about 2.30 € in Z4, to be checked).
Which option to choose?
- Late arrival, luggage or a group: a fixed-price private transfer booked ahead: see Porto airport transfer: which offer and from the airport to the centre.
- Small budget: the metro, see Porto metro tickets and zones.
- Flexibility in the city: Uber or Bolt, comparing both.
