Coliseu do Porto: programme, tickets and tips for the concert hall

Updated on October 26, 2026

The Coliseu do Porto (called Coliseu Porto Ageas because of sponsorship) is the city's big historic concert hall, at 137 Rua de Passos Manuel, a few minutes' walk from Avenida dos Aliados. It opened on 19 December 1941 to plans by the architect Cassiano Branco, replacing an earlier "Jardim-Salão Passos Manuel" opened in 1908. Its capacity is about 3,000 to 4,000 depending on the layout (seated or standing): sources differ, and an extension of about 500 places was reported in 2018. The programme changes every week: pop, rock and fado concerts, dance, comedy and musicals. Buy tickets through the hall's official box office, never from a reseller at inflated prices.

Highlights

The main hall

The main hall

A large horseshoe-shaped volume with a stalls floor and several balcony levels: you see the stage well from almost everywhere, including the top. The layout varies by show (standing floor or seats).

The entrance hall

It is the first space you cross; arrive a little before doors open to avoid the crowd at the ticket check.

A concert rather than a visit

We did not find a regular guided tour: the best way to see the hall is to attend a show.

Tips

  • The full programme and ticket office are on the Coliseu's official site: we do not publish dates or prices, which vary by show. Check the seating plan before you buy, because some concerts have numbered seats and others a standing floor. Arrive 30 minutes before doors to avoid the queue. Walk back or take the metro (the line is at Bolhão or Aliados): for the night-time return, see our tips in scams and safety in Porto. For other venues, see Casa da Música and our guide to concerts in Porto. Book your hotel early on big-name nights: where to stay in Porto.
