Rua de Santa Catarina is the main pedestrian shopping street in the centre of Porto, a short walk from the Bolhão Market. It lines up international chains, fashion boutiques and cafés, and keeps several 19th- and early 20th-century facades. The Via Catarina shopping centre, on four floors, brings together fashion brands and restaurants. The street also holds the Café Majestic and, close by, the Chapel of Souls. The walk is free and the street is pedestrianised.
Highlights

The street sign
On a building wall, the green and white "Rua de Santa Catarina" sign marks the main shopping axis. It helps you get your bearings when coming from Bolhão.

The Portuguese pavement
The pavements are decorated with black and white stone patterns, typical of Portuguese paving (calçada).
Via Catarina
This four-floor shopping centre, open to the street, has fashion shops and cafés; it is a break on rainy days.
The Majestic and the Chapel of Souls
Two cultural stops on the same street that break up the shopping.

Tips
- Start at Bolhão and walk down the street. The chains are the same as in other European cities; also have a look at Rua Passos Manuel, which crosses the street and is home to Armazém dos Linhos, a shop that was originally a tailor's. Opening hours vary from shop to shop (usually late-morning opening and evening closing, earlier on Sunday): check the hours of the shop you are interested in.
How to get there
