Vigo and the Cíes Islands from Porto: train, bus, boat and access permit

Updated on October 26, 2026

Vigo, in Galicia (Spain), is about 150 km from Porto: allow about 2 hours by car; a direct train and buses also link the two cities (journey times and schedules to be checked on cp.pt and with the bus companies, October 2026). The boat to the Cíes Islands leaves from Vigo (about a 40-minute crossing according to one operator); an excursion ticket of about 5 hours is listed at 27 EUR per adult and 10 EUR per child up to 12. In high season (15 May to 30 September and Easter, according to operators), a permit from the Xunta de Galicia is required: it usually goes through the boat company; access is capped at a set number of visitors a day.

Tips

  • The Cíes are a long day from Porto: spend the night in Vigo or plan a very early start. Book the boat and permit well before summer; the return time (between 17:30 and 18:50 according to one operator) sets the end of your day. For another Galicia outing, see Santiago de Compostela from Porto. Access rules are not confirmed by an official source: check the Xunta de Galicia website (October 2026).

How to get there

Porto to Vigo: car (about 2 h), direct train or bus (to be checked). Then ferry from the port of Vigo to the Cíes.

Opening hours

Best: June to September
Boats depend on the season (generally Easter to September); times and permit to be confirmed with the boat company and the Xunta de Galicia
