Weather and light in July

What to do in July

Start early for city visits (Clérigos, Livraria Lello, Ribeira) and keep the afternoon for the water: the six bridges cruise gives you air on the river, and the Foz and Matosinhos beaches are a few metro or bus stops away. A surf lesson at Matosinhos can be taken all day. To leave the city, the Douro Valley is very hot at this time: prefer the cruise and air-conditioned cellars. In the evening, terraces and rooftops.

Events of the month

  • July: no national public holiday. The Marés Vivas festival is generally held in July in Vila Nova de Gaia; the 2027 dates are not confirmed, check before you book.
  • Heat: in a heatwave, avoid visits between 13:00 and 17:00.

Prices and booking

July is high demand: book the hotel several weeks ahead (where to stay in Porto), as well as the Lello and the cellars. Budget: travel budget for Porto.

What to pack

Light clothes, a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, swimsuit and towel for the beach, a thin jacket for the evening wind.
