What to do in June
For the São João night, read our page São João in Porto: midnight fireworks over the Douro, grilled sardines, plastic hammers. The nights are short and the centre is closed to traffic: come by metro. For the festival, see Primavera Sound Porto. The rest of the month, enjoy the long evenings: six bridges cruise, sunset at the Jardim do Morro, a food tour to taste seasonal dishes. A surf lesson at Matosinhos is possible with a wetsuit.

- 10 June: Portugal Day, public holiday (a Thursday in 2027).
- 23-24 June: São João; 24 June is a public holiday (a Thursday in 2027). The 2027 programme is not yet published: the City of Porto releases it a few weeks ahead.
Prices and booking
June is high demand: hotels are expensive and full around São João and the festival, so book several months ahead (where to stay in Porto). Also book the Livraria Lello and restaurants for the eve of the festival. Budget: travel budget for Porto.
What to pack
Light clothes, a jacket for the evening, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, earplugs if you sleep near the Ribeira on festival nights.
