Salamanca from Porto: distance, bus, car and should you stay overnight?

Updated on October 26, 2026

Salamanca, in Spain, is about 350 km from Porto: allow about 4 hours by car via the Vilar Formoso border. Direct buses (FlixBus, Rede Expressos, Alsa) take about 5 to 6 hours according to sources and cost about 20 to 60 EUR one way (secondary sources, October 2026; prices vary a lot with the date). It is not a comfortable day trip: plan at least one night. Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
