Peso da Régua: what to do, train from Porto and Douro cruise
Peso da Régua is the capital of the Douro Valley and the gateway to the port-wine vineyards. You get there by train from Porto (about 2 h, see cp.pt), by car on the A4 (about 1 h 15 to 1 h 30) or by cruise with a train back. The town takes a few hours: the Douro Museum, the river and the viewpoints around. It is above all a base for the quintas, not a destination in itself.
Highlights

The riverfront
A promenade along the Douro with the cruise boats and, above, terraced vineyards. It is the most pleasant part of town, a few minutes' walk from the station.
The Douro Museum
Housed in an old 18th-century building by the water, it tells the story of the region and its wine. One guide gives daily opening from 10 am to 5:30 pm and a ticket of about 6 EUR: both are to be confirmed.
The historic train
A steam train runs from June to October from Régua to Tua according to one source; check the dates on the CP website.
The São Leonardo de Galafura viewpoint
At 640 m, it overlooks several parishes of the Upper Douro; you need a car or taxi.

Tips
- For a day without a car there are two formulas: the return train, or a cruise to Régua with a train back to São Bento, sold as an excursion of about 11 hours with lunch. The excursion with boat, lunch and tasting removes all logistics. Régua is closer than Pinhão but less photogenic; Lamego is about 15 to 20 minutes away. To stay overnight, see where to sleep in the Douro Valley.
How to get there
CP train from Porto-Campanhã on the Douro line (about 2 h, to be confirmed on cp.pt); by car, A4 then A24 (about 1 h 15 to 1 h 30). See also the Douro Valley from Porto.
