Weather and light in November

What to do in November

Prepare indoor plans: the Livraria Lello, the Stock Exchange Palace, the museums and the Bolhão market are ranked in Porto when it rains. A Gaia cellar, a pastel de nata class and an evening of fado fill a rainy day well. If the sky is clear, the Douro Valley is in autumn colours and the roads are quiet. The season in detail is in Porto in winter.

Events of the month

  • 1 November: All Saints' Day, public holiday; shops and hours reduced.
  • 11 November: St Martin's Day (São Martinho), the feast of roasted chestnuts and new wine; special menus in restaurants.
  • Late November: lights and Christmas markets get under way, see Christmas and New Year in Porto.

Prices and booking

November is one of the cheapest months for accommodation. Activities can be booked the day before. Budget: Porto travel budget.

What to pack

A proper raincoat, waterproof shoes, a warm layer. A sturdy umbrella, as the wind is strong along the river.
