Mercado do Bom Sucesso in Porto: what to eat, opening hours and how to get there
The Mercado do Bom Sucesso is a covered hall in Porto, near the Casa da Música, turned into a gourmet market: you come here to eat and drink rather than to shop for groceries. Entry is free; allow an hour for a lunch or a drink. The most detailed hours found (2022) give 8 am to 11 pm on weekdays, until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 9 am to 11 pm on Sundays; each counter sets its own hours though, to be confirmed on site (October 2026).
Highlights

The great hall
A 20th-century building with a large glass roof, now filled with Portuguese food counters, wine bars and small restaurants around a central space.
The sharing counters
Several stalls under one roof: a group can each order a different dish (petiscos, Portuguese mains, Douro wines by the glass).
The drinks corner
The bars serve wine, port and cocktails; a late-afternoon break works well.
An alternative to the Bolhão
For groceries and stalls, choose the Bolhão Market; here you come to eat.

Tips
- Come outside peak hours (before 12:30 pm or after 2:30 pm) to find a table. Each counter has its own hours and prices: compare before you order and keep room for a second stall. For a comparison of the markets (Bolhão, Beira-Rio, Matosinhos), read Porto's markets: which one to choose. To eat with a guide, see Food tour in Porto: which offer. The market is close to the Casa da Música: the two combine easily.
How to get there
Praça do Bom Sucesso, Boavista district, a short walk from the Casa da Música (a few minutes, distance not checked). The metro serves the Casa da Música station; see Transport in Porto.
