Porto Tram Museum (Museu do Carro Eléctrico): opening hours, getting there and collection
The Museu do Carro Eléctrico is Porto's public transport museum, housed in the former Massarelos thermoelectric power station on the banks of the Douro. It brings together trams, trolleybuses and service vehicles that have run in the city since the 19th century, and tells how the network, whose tram lines 1 and 18 are the heirs, shaped Porto. It is a short, lively visit to slip into a walk along the Massarelos and Miragaia riverfront.
Highlights

The Massarelos power station
The red-brick building, marked with the STCP initials, housed the plant that supplied electricity to the tram network. Its large hall is now the exhibition space for the vehicles.

The historic cars
Tram no. 163, in the colours of the Carris de Ferro do Porto, is part of a collection of trams from different eras, shown in the large hall. The small cars appeal to children and to lovers of industrial heritage alike.

Trams, buses and trolleybuses
Alongside the trams, the museum keeps trolleybuses and service vehicles from the network. A good introduction before boarding a tram in service.
