What costs nothing
Much of the city can be seen for free: the Ribeira lanes, the bridge deck, the São Bento hall, the Bolhão market, the Crystal Palace gardens. Our full list is in free things to do in Porto.
What is worth booking ahead
Book the Livraria Lello (dated ticket) and, from June to September, the Stock Exchange Palace tour in advance. A Gaia cellar should be booked the day before at the latest in summer: to choose, read which cellar to pick. The six bridges cruise can be bought on the spot.

Eating and going out
Try the francesinha (where to eat it) and a pastel de nata, or learn to make one in a cooking class. For a tasting introduction, a food tour lasts three hours.
Depending on your time
